THE SPIRIT OF MEJA
Our name, Meja, means "table" in both Bahasa Malay and Indonesian, while “Mez” echoes the same idea in Persian, Hindi and Urdu.
It represents a place where families gather, stories unfold, and traditions are passed from one generation to the next. It's the beating heart of every home.
AN INVITATION TO LIVE BEAUTIFULLY
At Meja Maison de Bali, we’re inspired by some of the richest and most storied cultures in the world, from the vibrant Malay Peninsula to the evocative and deep spirituality of Bali, from the achingly beautiful sparseness of the Sahara and the majestic landscape of Africa, to the breathtaking colour and splendour of India.
We celebrate these rich cultural legacies. But we also add something new.
Meja fuses each design with a delicate twist of French opulence, creating a series of bespoke collections that combine past, present and future. The result is a truly unique collection of handmade tableware, table linen, and home décor — each piece thoughtfully crafted in small batches using locally and ethically sourced materials.
THE STORY BEHIND MEJA
Meja is the brainchild of three friends - Mala, Baruna & Alexandre - all of whom had faced similar experiences when furnishing new homes abroad. There would always be two choices: Either seek out items true to their own unique, individual style but at great cost, or seek out price-sensible items from giant chains, but which were by comparison bland, boring & generic.
Being a trio of designer and product developers themselves, they saw an opportunity to bring character, colour and personality to homes everywhere - by leveraging the cultural inspirations that had moulded each of their own journeys.
At the helm of concept and design is Alexandre Miel, a talented textile artist with experience working in luxury French couture before relocating to Bali, where he established his own label and in-house manufacturing. Taking Meja to the world (and to a table near you) are Mala Rana and Baruna Bhatia, both graduates from prestigious Fashion & textile school in New Delhi, and experts in product development & manufacturing distribution.
Working between Bali, Java, Singapore, and India, the Meja Studio brings together artisans, designers, and makers united by a shared appreciation for quiet luxury and thoughtful creation. The dialogue between cultures, textures, and perspectives becomes part of every object we create.
THE MEJA PERSPECTIVE
At Meja , one does not merely set a table. We embrace the opportunity to bring back a sense of value and authenticity to the items we choose to surround ourselves with daily.
To move away from today’s ‘plastic and disposable’ mindset and go back to the time where items were kept in the family and passed down, creating a sense of generational memory , value and continuity.
Just as importantly , we invite all of us to share history, honour tradition, and to truly embrace the beauty of handmade creation.
Thank you for being a part of our journey - and Welcome to our table!
INSIDE THE WORLD OF MEJA
Meja began as a quiet pursuit of beauty — an exploration of how art, space, and intentional living could exist in harmony.
Alexandre's work is the beginning of everything at Meja. Landscapes, textures, architectural forms, moments quietly observed — these become the visual language that shapes each collection. The process is slow by design, with each finished object conceived not to fill a room, but to change how a room feels.
At Meja, we believe true luxury is not excess, but intention — investing in how you live, what you choose to live with, and the feelings inspired by a beautiful space.
